Google CEO criticized internally for ‘botched’ Bard AI launch event
You must be aware that Google recently launched its own AI chatbot Bard, in response to the threat from OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft, who are integrating it inside Bing Search. Google said it will also integrate its Bard AI inside Google Search and claims its version is better and more accurate. However, the launch event where Google announced its Bard AI was far from perfect. We have already reported how Google lost $100 billion in market value in a few minutes thanks to an error from the Bard chatbot in answering as to which telescope first captured an exoplanet.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai is now being criticized even internally by his employees regarding how the announcement event went. There is an internal meme generator at Google, and everyone knows about it by the name of MemeGen. This tool is reportedly being used a lot inside Google, and employees are using it to share memes among each other as how the event was “rushed” and “botched”. One meme read, “Dear Sundar, the Bard launch and the layoffs were rushed, botched, and myopic,” along with the suggestion to “Please return to taking a long-term outlook.”
However, we must understand the situation Google CEO is in right now. While it is better to take a long-term outlook, he must also defend his company against Bing, threatening to take their market share away. If he doesn’t release their AI tool as soon as possible, Google’s shareholders will likely criticize it, saying they need to have the plan to counter Bing’s plans. There was another meme shared internally, as seen by CNBC, that poked fun at how Google’s shares jumped 3% when the layoffs were announced but dived 9% when Bard gave at least one incorrect answer.
Google spokesperson admitted the mistake made by Bard and said that this is why they need to do rigorous testing. This statement also confirms that Google’s AI chatbot is not ready for the market, but because ChatGPT is ready to be released, they are also trying not to be late and releasing their version, Bard, to the market as soon as possible.
