While the times currently are very testing and we all have to take precautions as well as do our part, the giant companies of the world are also doing their bit to fight this pandemic of Coronavirus. We are talking about Google right now and since you might be aware that they have many services which are helpful for remote workers, they are now giving away one of those services for free. The company just announced that their premium version of Hangouts Meet, which is their video-conferencing platform for enterprise users, will be available for free.

Now, the decision is also because of the fact that Google sees more and more people working remotely as told by their companies. Amid the outbreak, every company has told its employees to either take leaves and stay at home or work remotely so as to make minimal contact with the outside public. This will help curb the spread of Coronavirus which is also becoming more and more of a threat.

Google says that “As more employees, educators, and students work remotely in response to the spread of COVID-19, we want to do our part to help them stay connected and productive.” Along with making the premium version of Hangouts Meet free, Google also announced new features for the platform. Hangouts Meet will now be able to have:

  • An increased limit of 250 participants per call.
  • Live streaming with an increased audience limit of up to 100,000 viewers within a domain.
  • The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive.

Google says that these features will be available for all users who are not part of G Suite until July without any additional charges. While this might not be a huge step, we definitely think that this will make life easier for millions of workers who are remotely doing their job.
