Google has expanded its Gemini AI mobile app into the Indian market, catering to the diverse linguistic landscape of the country by supporting nine Indian languages alongside English. Initially introduced in the United States earlier this year, Gemini aims to provide advanced AI assistance through natural language processing and contextual understanding.

The Gemini mobile app in India allows users to interact in languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This capability enables users to engage with the AI assistant through typing or voice commands, facilitating a more personalized and accessible digital experience.

Powered by Gemini 1.0 Pro by default, the app also offers a premium option known as Gemini Advanced, which leverages Gemini 1.5 Pro. This advanced version provides enhanced features such as a 1 million token context window, enabling the processing of extensive documents up to 1,500 pages and performing complex data analysis tasks. The inclusion of support for the nine Indian languages in Gemini Advanced underscores Google’s commitment to addressing local needs and enhancing user engagement across diverse linguistic preferences.

In addition to its launch in India, Google has quietly introduced the Gemini mobile app in other South Asian countries including Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Android users in these regions can download the app from the Play Store, while iPhone users in India can expect access through the Google app in the coming weeks.

During its I/O developer conference in May, Google outlined plans to integrate Gemini into popular apps like Gmail, Google Messages, and YouTube, as well as deeply integrate it within the Android operating system. These enhancements, slated for rollout over the next few months, aim to provide users with seamless AI-driven functionalities across various digital platforms.

Specifically targeting Indian users, Google has begun rolling out Gemini integration into Google Messages in English, with plans to expand language support and integration capabilities in the near future. The expansion into India follows earlier launches in European markets such as Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, and the U.K., where Gemini has already gained traction with localized language support including Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese.
