We know that a lot has been going on over at Twitter and we also criticize the company, as well as their CEO Elon Musk, from time to time due to his decisions that are objectively ruining the company that it was before the acquisition. However, it is also worth mentioning the things that are being done according to plan from the company and we have one example of it. Last year, Elon Musk announced that he is starting the $8 per month program to verify users on the platform but it will have many benefits including profit sharing as well.

Now, Twitter has just started sharing profits with its verified users on the platform and from the tweets we have seen, it looks like the revenue is enough to justify the $8 per month price tag for verified users as of now. It is worth noting that there is no promise if the profit sharing will keep on continuing but right now they are following on their promise. As per the description of this revenue sharing, “Twitter is monetizing the ads served in tweet replies, as it would be difficult to determine which creators to pay for ads served in the feed”.

It basically means that if you are a creator and you are getting a lot of replies under your tweet then the ads served inside your tweet’s replies will belong to you and that revenue will be shared with you. Farzad Mesbahi tweeted that “The more haters you have in your replies the more money you’ll make on Twitter.” which Elon Musk calls “poetic justice”. Now, we know that this is a good idea to drive up interaction on the platform as just posting tweets will not help and people need to engage with those tweets and share their thoughts as well. However, we fear that this will drive up fake engagement as well which is also the reason why Twitter has added limits to how many tweets you can see per day “for a short time”. However, Twitter’s monetization rules mention that “sexual content cannot be monetized” and also “pyramid schemes or get-rich-quick schemes”
