Apple’s M5 iPad Pro to feature dual front-facing cameras: Report

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its next-generation M5 iPad Pro later this year, and among the few but notable changes coming to the device is the addition of a second front-facing camera.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, the M5 iPad Pro will include both a landscape- and portrait-oriented front camera, allowing for more flexibility during video calls and selfies, regardless of how the device is held.
This enhancement follows last year’s significant design shift with the M4 iPad Pro, which saw Apple reposition the front-facing camera from its traditional portrait alignment to the landscape edge, a move praised for improving video call ergonomics when using the iPad with a keyboard.
However, it also sparked complaints from some users who preferred the original portrait-side placement, particularly for handheld FaceTime calls and selfies.
Apple’s upcoming dual-camera setup appears to be a direct response to that feedback. While it’s not a revolutionary feature, analysts suggest the change could improve usability without introducing any major drawbacks. Both cameras are expected to remain subtly embedded within the iPad Pro’s thin bezels, preserving the device’s sleek and minimalist design.
Despite some skepticism about the necessity of such a change, with few widespread complaints recorded from M4 iPad Pro users, Apple’s move reflects the company’s ongoing focus on refining user experience.
As Gurman notes, “There’s no downside to Apple adding a second front-facing camera… It might look a bit awkward, but the front camera pretty much blends right into the iPad Pro’s bezels.”
Apart from the new camera configuration, the M5 iPad Pro is not expected to bring any major design overhauls.
The marquee upgrade will be the inclusion of Apple’s latest M5 chip, making the iPad Pro the first Apple device to feature the new silicon. The M5 Macs are slated to debut in the first half of 2026.
With this update, Apple continues its incremental yet purposeful evolution of the iPad Pro, further blurring the lines between tablet and laptop in terms of performance and versatility. The M5 iPad Pro is expected to launch before the end of 2025.
