WhatsApp beta for iOS tests multi-account support
WhatsApp has introduced a much-anticipated feature in its latest beta update for iOS, allowing users to add and switch between multiple accounts on a single device. According to WABetaInfo, this functionality is now available for beta testers through Apple’s TestFlight program with version 25.2.10.70 of the app. The update marks a significant milestone, as iOS users gain access to a feature that has been available for Android for over a year.
The new feature offers users flexibility when adding a second account to the app. Beta testers can choose to set up the new account as a standalone primary account or link it as a companion account by scanning a QR code. This eliminates the need for juggling multiple devices or switching between apps to manage different WhatsApp accounts.
For Android users, running two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously typically requires a dual-SIM configuration, as each account must be linked to a separate phone number. While WhatsApp has offered an alternative through its WhatsApp Business app, which allows users to set up a second account with a different number, it still requires using two separate apps. With the multi-account feature, users on both Android and iOS can now maintain conversations from two numbers in one unified app, providing a seamless experience.
The ability to manage multiple accounts on a single device is particularly beneficial for users who need to separate personal and professional communications. Whether it’s maintaining work-related chats alongside private messages or managing different groups and contacts, the new functionality offers greater convenience and efficiency.
The rollout of this feature for iOS users signifies WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience across platforms. While the feature is still in beta testing, it’s expected to become widely available once testing concludes and any potential issues are resolved.
Beta testers can access the feature by updating to version 25.2.10.70 through Apple’s TestFlight program. This update represents WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to innovate and meet the needs of its diverse global user base. As multi-account management becomes increasingly important in today’s connected world, this feature will prove very handy for those who are juggling between devices in order to stay connected with friends and family.
