Insta360 has officially unveiled the Go Ultra, the latest version of its compact action camera line that helped the company carve a niche against established rivals like GoPro. Breaking away from the Go series’ familiar pill-shaped design and numbered naming system, the Go Ultra arrives with a fresh square form factor and upgraded performance features.

The Go Ultra is priced at $449.99, a $50 increase over last year’s Go 3S. Customers can also opt for a $499.99 Creator Bundle, which includes extra accessories such as a mini tripod and quick-release mount. The camera is now available in midnight black and arctic white through Insta360’s online store and Amazon.

Measuring 1.8 inches on each side, the Go Ultra is slightly bulkier than its predecessor, weighing almost 14 grams more than the Go 3S. However, it remains far smaller and lighter than alternatives like DJI’s Osmo Action 5 Pro or Insta360’s own Ace Pro 2. Despite its compact size, the camera houses a larger 1/1.28-inch sensor, the same used in the company’s X5 360-degree action cam. Paired with a new ambient light sensor, the upgrade is expected to deliver significantly improved low-light video quality.

Video recording still tops out at 4K, but with a notable boost: the Go Ultra can now shoot at 60fps, double the maximum frame rate of the Go 3S. Users can also activate “Active HDR” mode at 4K/30fps, or switch to 1080p for slow-motion recording at up to 240fps.

The redesigned body makes it harder to gauge shooting orientation at a glance, something the old pill shape handled intuitively. Yet the new design accommodates a larger 500mAh battery, promising up to 70 minutes of continuous shooting or as much as 200 minutes when paired with the Action Pod at 1080p/24fps with the screen off. Demanding 4K/60fps recording will reduce that figure.

Another major change is the addition of a microSD card slot, supporting up to 2TB of removable storage, replacing the line’s traditional built-in memory. The Go Ultra retains waterproofing down to 33 feet and comes with updated accessories, including a stronger magnetic pendant for chest mounting and even a hat clip designed for toddlers. The camera’s magnetic back also allows for quick attachment to metallic surfaces without extra mounts.

With its stronger sensor, higher frame rates, bigger battery, and modular storage, Insta360’s Go Ultra aims to push compact action cameras into new territory, balancing portability with professional-grade performance.
