As Nintendo edges closer to its promised reveal of the Switch’s successor before April 2025, new leaks from accessory manufacturers have provided a glimpse of what the next-generation console may look like. Dbrand, a popular maker of custom cases and accessories, has released a preview of its “Killswitch 2” case, which features a detailed render that suggests several key design changes for the rumored “Switch 2.”

The case mockup shows a device that appears larger than the current Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED models. According to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, the dimensions of the new console are based on a “3D scan of the real hardware,” giving the company confidence in its accuracy. Ijaz declined to elaborate on how Dbrand obtained these measurements, cryptically responding, “Nice try, Nintendo,” when asked about the source of the scan.

Based on the leaked data, the next Switch is expected to be significantly larger than the existing models. Ijaz’s measurements indicate that the upcoming console could be 270mm wide and 116mm tall, compared to the current Switch OLED, which measures 242mm in width and 102mm in height. The thickness of the new model is expected to remain nearly the same, with a slight increase to 14mm, up from the Switch OLED’s 13.9mm.

One of the most intriguing features revealed in the mockup is a mysterious new button on the right Joy-Con. Positioned under the Home button, this square button is marked with a “C,” which could suggest a return to the “C-buttons” first introduced on the Nintendo 64 controller. These buttons were originally used for controlling a game’s camera, and it is unclear if this new button will serve a similar function or if it will have a different purpose altogether. The left Joy-Con retains a familiar button layout, with the capture button still in place.

Another notable feature is the potential for magnetic Joy-Con attachment. According to Ijaz, the controllers may be magnetically attached to the console, with an ejection button located on the back near the top. Dbrand’s case design supports this feature, allowing the controllers to detach with ease.

The render also reveals other design elements, including a large 8-inch screen and a kickstand that measures around 55mm in height, roughly half the height of the console. The joysticks are said to protrude 6.27mm, while the D-pad and ABXY buttons extend 1.57mm.

As the Nintendo Switch’s successor continues to take shape, these leaks provide tantalizing clues about the console’s size, design, and functionality. However, official details from Nintendo are still scarce, and fans will have to wait until the company’s planned reveal in 2025 for confirmation.
